If someone told me a month ago that I’ll be sitting here and convincing you to invest in an embroidered bag, I wouldn’t believe it. Yet, here I am telling you how you absolutely must get your hands on one… Oh the irony!
The truth is, of course, you don’t NEED one, but I promise you if you get an embroidered bag, you won’t stop wearing it. Despite the busy print, a neutral-based embroidered bag goes with anything. Jeans and t-shirt, statement coats, stripes, monochrome – you name it, I give you a bag that literally goes with all of it.
Ever since I spotted this white baby on ASOS, I knew it was going to be a big hit. Firstly, because of the beautiful embroidery. Second, because of the white + gold which is a classic. And finally, because of the price. At £35 it wasn’t exactly cheap, but it is way more affordable than any high-end alternative.
The thing is, I didn’t expect it to sell out so quickly. It disappeared from ASOS after 3 days, and from Miss Selfridge’s website shortly after. I’ve linked both just in case it comes back in stock, but for now you can still get the same bag in black, which I also think looks fabulous. Plus, look in store – it may still be in your local Miss Selfridge’s!
HOW TO PICK THE PERFECT EMBROIDERED BAG
Embroidery is definitely a trend rather than a classic, which means you’ll probably be lusting after something else in a season or two. That’s why I wouldn’t advise you to splurge on such a trendy piece before making sure it’s 100% worth it. With so much choice from the high street, I think it’s worth to test the trend – whether it goes with your style and lifestyle, and whether you won’t get bored of it after 4-5 months. If after a couple of months you are still lusting after an embroidered bag, there are some amazing designer ones like this Dolce&Gabanna one. But for all my budget fashionistas, I believe the high street has some amazing bags that rival their designer counterparts.
MY FAVOURITE EMBROIDERED BAGS UNDER £40
For me personally, a small to medium crossbody bag is the perfect size to wear embroidery. It makes a statement without stealing the attention from YOU. Choose a bag that fit all your essentials – this Miss Selfridge one fits surprisingly much, including my Olympus Pen camera!
Picking a larger size bag (such as a tote) can look a little too busy and will make it harder to pair with another rather statement item, like this striped coat. However, since my bag is a small cross-body, I think it complements the coat instead of clashing with it.
Embroidery looks good on any coloured bag, but if you want to maximise your outfit options (and if you’re on this blog, I believe you want), choose a neutral base colour. I’ve never really believed that a white embroidered bag would go with so many outfits, but it does! Anything black, white, beige or navy is a ‘safe’ option, while picking red or pink can make a real statement.
HOW TO WEAR THE EMBROIDERED BAG
Jeans + t-shirt/ shirt
The embroidered bag is the perfect accessory to spice up a simple jeans and t-shirt combo. For a super laid back look, pair with flat booties and a leather jacket and you’ll be casual yet not boring. That’s exactly the style I wish to have on an average day.
For a more elevated style, wear the embroidered bag with distressed denim, white shirt, a blazer and heeled booties. This combination is stylish, yet you don’t have to go and buy many items, since you probably already have them in your closet. Nothing better than shopping your own closet, right?

Solid colour dress
I think this is my favourite pairing, as it’s interesting but still super easy to wear. Zara has amazing block-colour dresses which make the embroidery on the bag really stand out. I’ve got this dress in both pink and yellow (two of THE colours for spring!) and I couldn’t be happier. They’re perfect for work (I don’t work in corporate though!) while still being trendy with the bell sleeves and the bright colour. In this look I paired the dress and bag with over the knee boots since it was still quite chilly outside, but it will also look amazing with sandals and even flats.

SKIRT + SWEATER
This is only a sneak-peak in another outfit post I shot while in Poland, but I can tell you this outfit is super comfortable yet chic! Wear your embroidered bag with a simple skirt and a sweater, and let it do all the talking! I loved how the bag took a nice but simple outfit to the next level by adding the necessary focal point.
